Description
Antique Persian Mohtashem Kashan. Mohtashem is a term used in the rug trade when referring to high-quality late nineteenth-century and early twentieth century rugs woven in the city of Kashan, in north central Iran. Mohtashem, a well-known weaver/designer, was among the first to operate a factory, weaving rugs of imported merino wool from Australia that had been spun in Manchester, England. These rugs were woven until the early 1930s, the onset of worldwide economic depression. Being an unbelievably well kept pictorial Mohtashem with the highest quality of wool and superb knotting, this antique is an example of our museum quality rugs.
