Description
Persian Sultanabad rugs are so named after their town of origin in the northwest region from the same Arak district as Farahan Sarouk. These oriental rugs that supported the area cottage industry were produced by families of weavers using a moderate weave and a thicker pile that resembling those of tribal or nomadic origin. The Sultanabad rugs of the 19th and 20th centuries are highly sought after as the sophisticated designs appeal to collectors and designers alike.

The Persian Sultanabad rugs often feature sprawling representations of the Persian motifs Herati, Mina Khani and Harshang with some very rare displays of the Mustafavi or the Garden of Paradise motif. Typically set against deep backdrop, the motifs employ earth tones and muted hues to bring out the intricate detail. This semi-antique Sultanabad rug features a series of floral and Harshang motifs rather than the central medallion motif that is prevalent in so many other Persian rugs. The muted tones combined with a bold backdrop contributes to the allure of this elegant ancient tradition.
