Considered a type of Tabriz rug, the Afshan is so named for the floral and arabesque design style, rather than its place of origin. Some of the most diverse designs in Persian rug weaving history belong to this region and the Afshan is no exception. The Afshan pattern came to prominence in the Caucasus region in the eighteenth century. Blending the styles of nomadic tribes from Asah, Turkey and Persian, the Afshan explores the culmination of culture and history.
