Description
Created by the nomadic Turkic tribe of the same name, the Afshar handwoven rug originates from the mountainous region of modern day Iranian Azerbaijan. Known for geometric floral patterns in rust and blue color tones, the Afshar rug is known for its saturated color palettes and quality of craftsmanship. The migration of this tribe through Central Asian Iran and Turkey inspires the distinctive aesthetic, incorporating influences of Persian rugs and Caucasian rugs.

A reflection of the Persian influence, Afshar rugs include boteh, tree of life, and shrub motifs. Kurdish influence can be found in the bird, flower, and angular medallion designs. This particular Afshar is sized to be a runner rug with the angular geometric shrub and tree motifs bordering the larger scale medallion designs. Rich in multicultural origins, the Afshar rug is certainly one of a fine collector's history books.
