Description
Originating from the Sarouk area and referred to as a type of Sarouk rug, the Mohajeran is considered a transitional connection from the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. Mohajeran rugs feature more spacing between designs with blossom motifs and willow trees. A bold color palette often displayed navy blues and shades of red often paired with one color being the border and one in the background of the central part of the rug.

The Mohajeran Sarouk rug, unlike its predecessor the Farahan, is more sparsely decorated with few color combinations. The less ostentatious presentation, including a reduction in the use of the medallion motif, distinguishes this Sarouk from others originating in the region. American Sarouks woven in the early twentieth century began incorporating floral sprays, which is often a distinguishing factor between the various types of Sarouk rugs. This particular contemporary Mohajeran Sarouk explores the beauty of the Shah Abbas arabesque palmette motif densely spaced throughout. The central medallion is rare for the Sarouk design, but a nod to its Persian ancestry.
