Description
The famous founding city of the Zoroastrian faith, Yazd (or Yezd) is east of Isfahan edging the Lut desert. The term Yezd (meaning well-made in Iran), are often mistaken for Kerman, as they are very similar in appearance. The rugs are created in a similar style, but the one exception is a high-quality weave, even when the knot count is lower.

Perhaps one of the most definitive aspects of an antique Yazd rug, is the silk and gold combination. After the Afghan invasion, however, the production of these rugs sifted to wool. Most Yazd rugs are designed around a central medallion with a symmetrical border. The beauty of the quality weave is that these rugs stand up well to heavy traffic. Although pastel colors are commonly found, Iranian households are known to display brighter and bolder color combinations. With a red background and bordered in gold, this contemporary Yazd rug explores the bolder side of the ancient tradition.
