The city of Nain is located in the central Iranian province of Esfahan. As seen in this masterpiece, Nain rugs are known worldwide for their fine weave and extremely detailed curvilinear designs. One distinguishing characteristic of Nain rugs is their restrained yet elegant palette. What is even more unique about this piece is that instead of one central medallion, the designer has created several elegant smaller medallions and has distributed them all throughout the field, connected to one another with intertwining leaves, stems, vines and blossoms known as islimi and a traditional floral motif known as Shah Abbasi. This remarkable creation has been woven on a cotton foundation with a predominantly wool pile and beautiful silk outlining the intricate motifs.
