Persian Nain 12x17

Nain rugs from the West of Iran were birthed in a city that borders the Dasht-e-Kavir desert. Nain hand-knotted rugs are immediately recognizable and popular to both collectors and rug enthusiasts. Each type of Nain rug is distinguished by the knotting density. The highest density of over one million knots per square meter is considered the finest of craftsmanship and is often attributed to the Isfahan rug.

Traditional Nain rugs include a central medallion piece surrounded by floral motifs. The traditional designs often resemble rugs from the nearby town of Isfahan making the Nain more appealing to collectors. Nain rugs were often created entirely of silk, however, more modern Nain rugs are constructed of wool or a combination of silk and wool. This contemporary Persian Nain constructed of wool and silk displays enchantingly detailed curvilinear designs in a restrained, yet elegant palette.
